Season Review: Maryland

After a 4-8 finish, Turtle Sports Report's Dennis Ting reviews Maryland's 2012 season and looks to the future.
1. With the regular season over, has
met or failed expectations?
When C.J. Brown went down in August, many people thought this Terps team was doomed to be even worse than lats season. The team surprised many by jumping to a 4-2 start with legitimate postseason hopes, but season-ending injuries to many key players crippled the team's chances as they lost their last six straight to miss the postseason once again in head coach Randy Edsall's second season at Maryland.
2. What one player has made the difference this season?
Freshman wide receiver Stefon Diggs stepped onto campus as one of the most highly recruited football players in recent history, yet he earned every single one of his touches and has made the most with them. Diggs broke the freshman receiving yards record at Maryland and ranks second in all-purpose yards in school history. Every time he touched the ball, he was a threat to make a big play with it. With a stable quarterback all season, it's scary to think of what Diggs could have accomplished.
3. What are the key improvements that need to be made in the offseason?
The team needs to stay healthy. With a healthy quarterback and wide receiver and running back corps, this team should have played in a bowl game. The quarterback situation also needs to be sorted out with five true quarterbacks (plus Devin Burns, a former wide receiver) competing for the starting job next season.
4. What has been the dominant headline of the regular season?
Injuries that decimated the Terps' chances at success.
5. If the recruiting class stays in-tact, what are your expectations for next season?
Look for the Terps to make a huge improvement. Regardless of who's under center (as long as its a quarterback), the Terps should be able to find their offense. Diggs will continue to be a great receiver with other receivers like Nigel King and Deon Long and a running back duo of Wes Brown and Brandon Ross, the Terps offense could be very dangerous. The defense should still be good, despite losing an experience senior linebacking group, but the backups have played very well this season and should continue to improve.
